California Condor

INTERESTING FACTS
The California Condor is the largest bird in North America. It can fly as high as 15,000 feet in the air. They can live up to 60 years old.

STATUS
There is only 127 left in the wild!

WHY THREATENED
The California Condor has been impacted by lead poisoning, DDT poisoning, power lines, and habitat loss.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Don't put poison in the trash.  Little critters can get in your trash and eat the poison and those are the animals that the Condor eat. Also, The San Diego Zoo has a very successful California Breeding program that has helped increase the number of Condors from as low as 2-3 dozen in the 1970s to the current number.  Support of that program can help the zoo do more.
