Nile Crocidile

INTERESTING FACTS
The Nile Crocodile lives in rivers in Africa. They are one of the only species where the father watches over them with one exception, the babies have to catch their own food so they learn to catch food fast. The Nile Crocodile's main food is fish but they will eat almost anything.
STATUS
There are about 250,000 Nile Crocodiles left in the world and numbers are free falling!
WHY THREATENED
They are threatened by nonnative plant and animals destroying their nests, people selling skins, and they breed in groups so it is getting harder to breed. One year 80,000 skins were sold!
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Don't buy anything made from crocodile skin for example shoes or belts.

Siberian Tiger

INTERESTING FACTS
The Siberian Tiger lives in eastern Russia. It is also the world's largest cat. It can eat 60 pounds of food in a night.  They are extremely aggressive and as they are forced to find new food sources they have attacked people and farm animals making them a bigger target for execution.

STATUS
There is estimated to be 400 to 500 left in the wild!

WHY THREATENED
They are threatened from people poaching them and their prey and also from habitat loss.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
This is a big issue that is not easy to address but you can spread awareness about the tiger situation. Be sure never to buy medicines that have tiger parts in it and if you are thinking about donating money to conservation efforts, do research on the company because many have failed. Visit my blog next Sunday to learn about another endangered species.
