Giant Panda

INTERESTING FACTS
The Giant Pandas are fast on foot and are good climbers. Giant Pandas can swim. They can give birth up to two babies but will only take care of one. Their main diet is bamboo and they eat 50 to 60 pounds of bamboo daily. Giant Pandas can eat meat, berries, flowers, grass, and nuts if necessary. Giant Pandas live in the mountains of central China.

STATUS
There are only 1000 left in the wild!

WHY THREATENED
The Giant Panda is endangered because of habitat loss and being hunted for their beautiful fur.  Giant Pandas are very shy and solitary animals.  As more and more people move into the mountains where they live, the Giant Panda has less space to roam and look for food.  Giant Pandas only eat certain specious of Bamboo. As Bamboo in their area dies off naturally they have no where to move to because of human population and construction.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
You can use less paper and other wood materials to save these beautiful animals.  Support the breeding of the Giant Panda (for example the San Diego Zoo), which has a low birth rate.  You can also give money to help support nature reserves that protect the habitat and keep people away from these precious animals.
