Snow Leopard

INTERESTING FACTS
The Snow Leopard lives in the mountains of central Asia. These mountains are often covered with a thick layer of snow therefore the Snow Leaped has wide feet used like snow shoes. They also have powerful legs for jumping up to fifty feet! Because of these advantages they are able to catch prey three times their weight. Their food is Mountain Ibex (similar to a long horned ram), Blue Sheep (also like a ram), Marmot (like a squirrel), hares, and birds.

STATUS
There are only 6,000 left in the world!

WHY THREATENED
The Snow Leopard is hunted for it's warm fur and it's organs are used in Chinese medicines.  In addition, the Snow Leopard's habitat is declining due to human destruction.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
You can support organizations that help protect the Snow Leopard and its habitat like WWF.
